Mission Cooperative Appeal

Each year we have a Mission Cooperative Appeal through the Diocesan Mission Office. We have been given permission to use the Haiti and Uganda outreach efforts for our Mission Cooperative Collection. This year we collected $8,385.75. We split the collection between Uganda Martyrs Parish and Kay Lasante Clinic.

Uganda Martyrs Church

Blessed Sacrament is one of a number of churches who cooperate in assisting the communities and people of southwest Uganda through Agape Community Transformation (ACT). We have always been proud of the ecumenical nature of this ministry. Approximately 80% of Ugandan people are Christian.

Many of you met Father Bruno, the pastor of Muko’s Uganda Martyrs Catholic Church, when he visited the U.S. several years ago. Father moved on to work for the local diocese, and in August 2013, Fr. John Vianney took over the parish duties. Father John thanks us for monies we have sent from our parish mission collections every year. Uganda Martyrs church is one of the only churches in the area that has a cement floor and windows. The catechist’s home is complete and occupied, and they have started a primary school. They recently were awarded the status of a Eucharistic Center, a step below a full-fledged parish. In addition to the church and school, the Fr. John is responsible for a small hospital and a couple more sites where they hold mass (hoping to build another church up in the mountain villages).ACT has a mission to support orphans through sponsorship at school (most schools are boarding due to the long travel distances by foot), a crafts program for the local villages, and a new agricultural program.
