BLESSED SACRAMENT PARISH COMMUNITY |
The church seats more than 1000 people when it is full. No one is more than 70 feet from the main altar.
The worship space is 100 feet across.
The altar (Table of the Eucharist) and the ambo (Table of the Word) are sculpted out of two Travertine marble pieces from Italy. The altar is 7 feet long and weighs 10,000 pounds. The ambo is 4 feet across and weighs 5,000 pounds.
The baptismal font was placed at the busiest entrance of the church where it is a constant reminder of our baptism. We are invited to sign ourselves with the Water of Life! The upper font is the original baptismal font in the church. The lower pool is 9 by 14 feet and 2 feet deep. It was built in 1993 after the church fire.
The stained glass windows were designed and constructed by Jim Hopfensperger. 7,650 pieces of hand-faceted glass surround the church.
The Stations of the Cross, which hang on the overhang of the church, were first used in the gym worship space.
The organ has 33 ranks of pipes ranging from the tiny 10 inch pipes to the big bass 30 feet tall pipes. The pipe chambers form the backdrop for the altar platform and are the side walls of the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. The organ cost $35,000 to construct in 1967 (less the 7 ranks that were added in 1979) and would cost over $300,000 to build today!
The bell at the top of the church tower weighs 1000 pounds, is 34 inches in diameter, and was donated by the children of Blessed Sacrament School when the church was built.
The cross at the top of the steeple is 96 feet off the ground.
