If we approach nature and the environment without…openness to awe and wonder, if we no longer speak the language of fraternity and beauty in our relationship with the world, our attitude will be that of masters, consumers, ruthless exploiters, unable to set limits on their immediate needs. By contrast, if we feel intimately united with all that exists, then sobriety and care will well up spontaneously. ~Pope Francis
On the evening of Thursday, October 27, about 60 people gathered for Peter Sinclair’s presentation about climate change, alternative energy sources, and how Mid- Michigan is an integral part of moving forward with more efficient and cleaner energy options in the United States. Because the Social Justice Awareness Committee has been focusing its initiatives on caring for the environment since Lent of 2022, Mr. Sinclair’s environmental expertise was the perfect follow up to the OUR CORNER OF THE EARTH bulletin series in late winter/early spring and the Table of Plenty garden sharing this summer.
The talk also coordinated with our book club selection of Pope Francis’s Encyclical Letter, Laudato Si’, On Care For Our Common Home. Caring for our earth is a social justice and life issue and learning more and doing more is part of our baptismal call.
