Advent Taizé Prayer Service
Wednesday, December 17 | 6:30 PM
Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church
Come, Rest in God’s Presence
In the midst of Advent’s busy pace, you are invited to pause, breathe, and pray. Our Advent Taizé Prayer Service offers a quiet, candlelit space to prepare your heart for the coming of Christ through song, silence, Scripture, and simple prayer.
This evening of prayer is open to all—whether you are deeply rooted in faith, searching, or simply longing for stillness during the Advent season.
What to Expect
- Repetitive, meditative chants sung several times, allowing prayer to move from the lips to the heart
- Extended periods of silence for reflection and listening to God
- Scripture readings focused on hope, waiting, and the light of Christ
- Candlelight and sacred symbols that create a peaceful, contemplative atmosphere
- A prayer experience lasting about 45–60 minutes, with no need to participate beyond what feels comfortable
You may sit, kneel, or remain still—simply come as you are.
What Is Taizé Prayer?
Taizé prayer comes from the Taizé Community, an ecumenical monastic community founded in 1940 in Taizé, France by Brother Roger Schutz. Established during World War II, the community became a place of refuge, reconciliation, and prayer, drawing people from different Christian traditions together in a spirit of peace and unity.
Over time, the Taizé Community developed a distinctive form of prayer marked by:
- Short, repeated chants often sung in multiple languages
- Simplicity and beauty rather than performance
- Silence as an essential part of communal prayer
- A focus on trust in God and reconciliation among Christians
Today, Taizé prayer is practiced around the world and is especially meaningful during seasons like Advent, when the Church waits in hope for Christ’s coming.
Prepare the Way of the Lord
As we journey toward Christmas, this Taizé service offers a sacred opportunity to slow down, let go of distractions, and make room for Emmanuel—God with us.
No registration required. All are welcome.
We look forward to praying with you.
