“The Council of Nicaea is a milestone in the Church’s history.” – Pope Francis
In 2025, the Church commemorates the 1700th anniversary of the First Council of Nicaea—a gathering that shaped Christian faith for generations to come. Convened in 325 A.D. by Emperor Constantine, the Council confronted the Arian heresy, which denied Christ’s divinity. Out of this historic moment emerged the Nicene Creed, a declaration of faith that continues to unite Christians across the Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and Protestant traditions.
Join Us in Celebration
On Monday, October 13 at 7:00 PM, we welcome Edmund Stark as he guides us through the beauty and depth of the Apostles’ Creed and the Nicene Creed. Together, we will:
- Trace the Scriptural roots of the earliest creeds.
- Explore the development of the Apostles’ Creed.
- Understand why the Nicene Creed was a vital next step in proclaiming Christ as “consubstantial with the Father.”
Through this journey, Edmund will help us rediscover the glory of God and the power of our shared belief that has sustained the Church for nearly two millennia.

A Call to Unity and Faith
Pope Francis reminds us:
“The celebration of its anniversary invites Christians to unite in a hymn of praise and thanksgiving to the Holy Trinity and in particular to Jesus Christ, the Son of God, ‘consubstantial with the Father,’ who revealed to us this mystery of love.”
And again he exhorts us:
“Let us renew our enthusiasm for journeying together in the way of Christ, in the way that is Christ. For we need him and the newness and incomparable joy that he brings.”
The Light of Christ in Our Times
The International Theological Commission, reflecting on this anniversary, wrote:
“‘When a lamp is lit, it is not put under a bushel, but on the lampstand, and it shines for all who are in the house’ (Mt 5:15). This light is Christ, ‘the light from light.’ To wonder at this light is also to find a new impetus to present this good news with even greater strength and creativity in the Holy Spirit.”
Even in an age marked by violence, uncertainty, and fading ties to faith, the Nicene Creed continues to shine as a beacon of truth and unity—a shared witness that calls all Christians to proclaim: Jesus Christ, Son of God, Savior.
